Enjoy art this winter with unique exhibitions at local galleries
One way to beat the winter blues is to set aside some time to visit a local art gallery. Luckily, the Miami Valley is home to many galleries that are hosting special exhibitions throughout the winter season.
Centerville Art Gallery
Through the month of January, the Centerville Art Gallery will be hosting the work of Ned Pennock, a local photographer. A Centerville resident since 1993, his work features portraits, family photos, landscapes, nature shots, still life photos and more. Free. Centerville Police Department, 155 W. Rosewood Gallery
The Rosewood Gallery within the Rosewood Arts Center is also hosting an exhibit that showcases the work of local residents. Starting Jan. 24 and through Feb. 25, visitors to the gallery can view the exhibition “Works on Paper.” The show is a juried exhibition that features the work of artists living within 40 miles of Dayton. Dayton Art Institute
The Dayton Art Institute’s current special exhibition, “Ralston Crawford: Air + Space + War,” is in its final weeks at the museum. The exhibition leaves Jan. 23 and features 72 works, including paintings, drawings and photographs, by the artist that reflect his personal experiences with flight during World War II.
In February, the DAI welcomes the exhibition “Black Heritage Through Visual Rhythms.” Opening Feb. 26, the exhibition is a collaboration with Dayton’s African-American Visual Arts Guild that features the contemporary work of African Americans from throughout the country. The Contemporary Dayton
Arts lovers only have a couple days left to see the exhibitions currently on view at the Co. Samuel Levi Jones’ “The Empire is Falling,” Willis “Bing” Davis’ “Kneel” and Tuan Andrew Nguyen’s “The Boat People” all leave the gallery after Jan. 16. However, three new exhibitions will call The Co home starting Feb. 3: Heather Jones’ “Storytellers,” Odili Donald Odita’s “3 Steps from Center” and Jeffrey Gibson’s “To Feel Myself Beloved on the Earth.” Free.
