Honor veterans and celebrate the start of summer with these in-person events

Memorial Day kicks off summer each year, but it’s also a day to remember and honor the nation’s veterans. With the return of events, several organizations are hosting ceremonies or celebrations in honor of the holiday. Here are four groups that are in-person events for the holiday.

City of Beavercreek Memorial Day Ceremony

Beavercreek Veterans Memorial Park, 1911 N Fairfield Road, Beavercreek

The city of Beavercreek will be honoring veterans with an in-person ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park. Residents are encouraged to attend the event, though they must bring their own lawn chair and social distancing is still being encouraged.

Memorial Day Flags at Dayton VA
May 31, 1-2 p.m.

Dayton National Cemetery, 4400 W. Third St., Dayton

American Legion Post 776 is honoring the region’s veterans by placing 100 flags on veterans’ gravestones. Participants are asked to register beforehand, and many slots are still available.

Memorial Day Weekend at Young’s Jersey Dairy
May 27-31, Th-F 2-10 p.m., Sa noon-11 p.m., Su noon-10 p.m.
$1 per ticket, or $20 for all-day carnival pass
Young’s Jersey Dairy, 6880 Springfield-Xenia Road, Yellow Springs

To celebrate Memorial Day, Young’s Jersey Dairy is hosting a carnival it its gravel lot. Families can enjoy rides on a carousel, swings and other classic rides. Afterwards, you can head to the farm for its regular attractions, including Udders & Putters, Young’s miniature golf course.

Springboro Memorial Day Parade

South Main Street, Springboro

Springboro plans to host its annual Memorial Day Parade on South Main Street this year, with Judge Gary Loxley as the grand marshal. A brief ceremony will be hosted after at Wade Field. Instead of hosting the traditional picnic afterwards, refreshments will be available around the field.
