Have some family fun before school starts with one of these local festivals

Dayton City Schools welcomes students for the first day of the school year this coming Monday, but you can still get some family fun in beforehand. Stop by one of these four local festivals for one last hurrah before school starts.

Germanfest Picnic
Aug. 12 5-11 p.m., Aug. 13 11 a.m.-11 p.m., Aug. 14 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
1400 E. Fifth St., Dayton

The Germanfest Picnic is back to in-person and at the Dayton Liederkranz-Turner’s clubhouse in St. Anne’s Hill neighborhood. The weekend will feature authentic German food, a polka mass at 10 a.m. on Sunday, a large selection of German beer, a fashion show and more.

Bacon Fest
Aug. 13, 3-10 p.m.
Lincoln Park, 675 Lincoln Park Blvd., Kettering

Almost a dozen local restaurants will be serving dishes featuring everyone’s favorite breakfast meat, bacon! Menu items include a bacon funnel cake, chocolate-covered bacon and a bacon egg roll. They day also features lots of live music.

Burkhardt Festival
Aug. 13, 4-8 p.m.
215 Burkhardt Ave., Dayton

This community festival is designed to bring the Springfield community together. There will be plenty of live music, food and entertainment in a family-friendly environment.

Art on the Commons
Aug. 14, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
Lincoln Park, 675 Lincoln Park Bvld., Kettering

The Rosewood Arts Center presents the 34th annual Arts on the Commons this year. More than 100 artists will be showing off their work in a variety of media. There will also be food, live music and a chalk art mural.
