These parks can offer more than just walking trails
Warm-weather outdoor activities have finally returned! After being in the house all winter due to the pandemic, now is a great time to get out for fresh air. If you are wanting to go on an adventure, check out these local spots.
Hills & Dales MetroPark
Located at 2655 S. Patterson Blvd., Hills & Dales Metropark was founded in 1907 and features native plant life, the Patterson Monument, Dogwood Pond and more. With walking trails that connects the whole park, you can experience a piece of history while enjoying different attractions that will make you want to keep exploring.
Island MetroPark
This park attracts visitors from all over Dayton. Located at 101 E. Helena St., Island MetroPark offers a place for families to gather for events or to have a day out in the sun enjoying the seasonal splash pad. There are also walking trails and the Gayle B. Price Jr. Bridge you can cross to get to the picnic spots.
Charleston Falls Preserve
From 8 a.m. till sunset every day, you can explore the 216-plus acres that make up the Charleston Falls Preserve at 2535 Ross Road. As you walk through the forest you will be overwhelmed with all there is to see, including flowers, and view waterfalls. More than 3 miles of trails pass through habitats like the Redbud Valley and the Thorny Badlands.
Carriage Hill MetroPark
Located at 7800 Shull Road, you can experience farm life from the 1800s in present day in this park. Carriage Hill has a historical farm with different animals in addition to its walking trails that cover multiple acres. In the open fields you can sit down for an afternoon snack and enjoy the fresh air. This park is a family favorite!
RiverScape MetroPark
Located along the Great Miami River at 237 E. Monument Ave., RiverScape features new activities almost every weekend. Depending on why you go, you may come across a festival or live concert. If you’re looking for a sedate trip, though, you can also walk along the river and spot swings as well as beautiful, landscaped gardens.
