Educational, cultural and social events planned for Black Business Month

The Gem City Black Business Month is returning to Dayton August 1. With more than 20 events taking place, the series is a chance for local businesses and entrepreneurs to “celebrate and amplify Black businesses in the Greater Dayton region.”

Whitney Barkley, director of the Greater West Dayton Incubator, shared that the Gem City Black Business Month is an initiative designed to strengthen the Black entrepreneurial community in the region.. “Black businesses have come so far, but still need the full support of our entire ecosystem to truly blaze a path for generational wealth and sustainability,” she said.

Events include a Cultural Capital & Resource Community Fair on August 18, Gem City Black Business Expo on August 27 and the 16th Annual Dayton African American Cultural Festival on August 20-21.

Started in 2004, national Black Business Month brings attention to the needs of the more than 2 million Black-owned businesses in the U.S. The Gem City Black Business Month is now in its second year.
