Get out of the house this spring for one of these 5 local events

Spring is finally here, and there is no better time to get out of the house to enjoy the region’s many special events. We’ve found five for you to put on your calendar, so you can be sure to have a fun-filled spring.

Das Rheingold
April 14, 7:30 p.m.; April 16, 2:30 p.m.

Das Rheingold, which translates to “The Gold from the Rhine,” brings the music of Richard Wagner to life. The Dayton Opera and Dayton Philharmonic will join forces to present the first of Wagner’s dramas in the Der Ring des Nibelungen saga. According to the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance, “The story begins when the dwarf Alberich renounces love and steals the magical gold guarded by three Rhine nymphs. From this gold, he has a ring forged, which will give him dominion over the world. Wotan, the ruler of the gods, lusts after the ring and breaks his own laws to obtain it. Alberich puts a curse on the ring, which sets into motion the rest of the saga.”

Kings Island’s Opening Day
April 15, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.

Kings Island officially opens for the season the weekend after Easter. The park, which was named Park of the Year at last year’s Golden Ticket Awards, is home to roller coasters like The Beast and Orion, as well as its newest themed area, Adventure Port, which opens this year.

Peter Pan
April 21-22, 7:30 p.m.; April 23, 2:30 p.m.

The Dayton Ballet will perform its own take on the classic story of Peter Pan. The show promises to be filled with fun choreography, humor and nods to other classic ballets.

Disney’s Frozen

The Schuster Center will host a special two-week engagement of the Tony-nominated Broadway musical, Disney’s Frozen. Featuring the songs from the hit movie and a dozen new musical numbers, this shows promises to be unforgettable for Frozen fanatics and newbies alike.

Nate Bargatze: The Be Funny Tour
May 30, 7 p.m.; June 2, 7 &
9:30 p.m.

The fun doesn’t have to end after Memorial Day weekend. Comedian Nate Bargatze will perform three shows in Dayton that feature his clean, relatable comedy, and children 6 and up are welcome to attend the show.
