Combine fine dining and a relaxed atmosphere at Grist
Combining fine dining with a relaxed atmosphere, Grist in Dayton is the perfect spot for foodies with an elevated palate. Owned and operated by the husband-and-wife duo Casey and Patrick Van Voorhis, Grist offers pasta dishes, soups, and salads for dine-in and takeout.
Their backgrounds in fine dining kitchens shaped a model that placed equal weight on retail and dining. Meanwhile, the name refers both to the grain milled for flour and to the idea of providing fuel for a larger process. Founded in 2018, the concept began inside District Provisions in the Oregon District, where the couple sold fresh pasta, breads and other specialty goods. Opening their new store this past May, Grist allows their guests to continue enjoying staples such as house-made meatballs and focaccia in a more inviting environment.
For those hoping to recreate craftsmanship at home, Grist also offers cooking classes. No matter your skill level, Grist invites all aspiring home chefs to take part, with classes starting at $103. Classes are held on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
46 W 5th St, Dayton. Grist’s lunch menu is available Mon.- Sat., 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and its dinner menu from 5 to 9 p.m. For more information on Grist, visit its website
