Dayton’s drive-in theaters ready to reopen
What could be better than sharing a big bucket of popcorn with your loved ones while watching a movie under the stars from the safety and comfort of your own vehicle? With so many recreational activities curtailed in recent months by the coronavirus pandemic, Dayton residents are eager to get back to watching movies and the area’s drive-in movie theaters are eager to serve.
The Dixie Twin Drive-In (6201 N. Dixie Drive in Dayton) has two large screens, each one with its own state-of-the-art digital projector. The Dixie Twin has been a favorite destination for local families and sweethearts for decades, and the drive-in will be reopening today—Tuesday, May 12—with family-friendly films Trolls World Tour and Dolittle showing on one screen, and The Invisible Man and The Hunt on the other. Call 937-890-5513 or visit the drive-in’s website for ticket prices, showtimes and more information.
Two other local drive-ins are also planning to reopen soon. The Melody 49 Drive-In (7606 Pleasant Plain Road in Brookville) and Sidney’s Auto Vue Drive-In (1409 Fourth Ave. in Sidney) are both popular destination spots during the summer months. While neither theater has a firm reopening date or an upcoming film schedule available at this time, both suggest keeping an eye on social media for updates coming soon.
