From precision therapies and clinical trials to financial assistance and support groups, Dayton Physicians Network treats the whole patient—not just the disease

Dayton Physicians Network (DPN) is a multi-specialty network that provides comprehensive cancer care and urologic care services to community members throughout the Miami Valley.

Dayton Physicians Network’s cancer care and urology team includes medical oncologists, hematologists, radiation oncologists and urologists who offer personalized care close to home. 

Dayton Physician Network’s physicians and staff have the experience and knowledge to treat all types of cancer, hematologic disorders and urology diseases using evidence-based medicine and state-of-the-art therapies. 

“Dayton Physicians Network is a very unique organization that is different from most practices in the region. We are able to offer a wide variety of care from urologic care as well as medical oncology and radiation oncology. We certainly take pride in managing prostate cancer, from managing the diagnosis of prostate cancer to the different treatment options for both localized prostate cancer as well as the management of advanced prostate cancer. As an affiliate with the James Cancer Network, hematology and medical oncology are essential components of comprehensive cancer care at Dayton Physicians Network. DPN’s expert team provides advanced, personalized cancer treatment using the latest evidence-based therapies to help patients achieve the best possible outcomes. Advanced cancer treatments offered include chemotherapy, immunotherapy and hormone therapy as well as targeted and precision-based cancer treatments.  

With accreditation from APEx for safety and care, radiation oncology is a vital part of the comprehensive cancer care services offered at DPN. DPN’s radiation oncology program combines cutting-edge technology with the expertise of board-certified radiation oncologists, medical physicists, specially trained oncology nurses, experienced radiation therapists and support staff.  

The ASTRO Accreditation Program for Excellence (APEx) is an independent radiation oncology practice accreditation program. The program is based on a comprehensive set of 16 standards of radiation oncology practice, organized around five pillars of patient care. 

“The major difference between a corporate-owned practice and an independent practice is an independent practice is owned and operated, day-to-day, by physicians, and a corporate practice is typically under direction of a hospital system and the physicians are employees. The vision of our practice, Dayton Physicians Network, is to provide the Miami Valley with the best, comprehensive, state-of-the-art cancer and urologic care,” says Dr. Mark Marinella, hematology and medical oncology, at Dayton Physicians Network. 

He says the advantages for patients who choose DPN is it easy to get into, the cost is often less and often is more efficient. Newly diagnosed cancer patients are scheduled to see a doctor within 48 hours, if not sooner.  

With 45 doctors and advance-practice providers, and 350 employees, Dayton Physicians Network offers immediate care across 12 practice locations from Greenville to Middletown. 

“Some of our physicians have well over 30 years of experience in this area. We have added so many things, just in the last couple of years, with the Low-Dose Radiation Therapy, the Clinical Research Center and the Non-Oncology Infusions,” Andrejcio says. “We strive to provide low-cost health care, but also, we provide the most state-of-the-art technology in our area.” 

The physicians at Dayton Physicians Network utilize advanced technologies and treatments while providing comprehensive and compassionate care to patients.  

“All of our providers are board certified, and some of them multi-board certified. We have providers, who are going on 40-plus years of experience,” Andrejcio says. “All of our providers not only have this great expertise, they are constantly looking at what’s new in the field, and what they can do better, but they also have very high patient satisfaction scores.”  

The network has a Comprehensive Prostate Cancer Center within the urology department and a BPH Clinic, treating benign prostatic hyperplasia. BPH refers to the normal enlargement of the prostate gland that occurs in men with aging. 

Andrejcio says Dayton Physicians Network also has its own pharmacy services department. 

“Any medications that patients may be prescribed during their visit, they can get at our pharmacy at Greater Dayton Cancer Center,” she says. “Our pharmacy services also work greatly to get all of the medications that are needed for the cancer treatments.”  

DPN has its own Clinical Research Center with a team of clinical research providers who work directly with doctors to start clinical trials, get patients enrolled in clinical trials and stay with patients every step of the way.  

“Currently, we are enrolling patients in nine clinical trials. Some are prostate cancer trials, others are hematologic trials as well as trials for breast cancer and bladder cancer,” Andrejcio says.  

With decades of experience providing infusion to treat cancer and blood disorders, Dayton Physicians Network also provides non-oncology infusion services. Infusion therapy delivers medication directly into the veins. 

In addition to treating cancer and blood disorders, the DPN Infusion Center benefits patients with a wide variety of other medical conditions, including asthma, lupus, multiple sclerosis, ulcerative colitis and rheumatoid arthritis, among others.  

Patients also have access to immediate financial assistance through the Dayton Physicians Foundation for Hope. This resource allows cancer patients and their families to focus on recovery.  

“We don’t just focus on the treatment, we know that there are so many components to fighting something like cancer,” Andrejcio says.  

Dayton Physicians Foundation for Hope is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that helps individuals with their essential living expenses while they undergo treatment for cancer. Cancer patients can receive assistance from the foundation for their non-medical bills, such as overdue rent/mortgage payments, utility bills, transportation to and from treatment appointments and meals for them and their families.
