Faith-based health system drops “Network” from name

In a move that streamlines its identity, while maintaining its community-based promise of world-class faith-based care, Kettering Health Network is dropping the word “Network” from its brand name and will now be known as Kettering Health.

“By becoming Kettering Health, we ensure our brand reflects the high-quality care displayed across our network every day,” says Fred Manchur, CEO of Kettering Health. “The past year has shown that we are truly stronger together, and this shift makes it clear to our communities that we are one, united Kettering Health—dedicated to being our best, to help our patients be their best.”

According to Timothy Dutton, executive vice president of mission, brand and people and chief human resources officer for Kettering Health, the name change is the result of a very deliberate process that started back in 2019.

“We involved employees, stakeholders and a whole assortment of folks from the very beginning of this project,” says Dutton. “We know that our locations have really deep ties to the communities they serve.

“This brand update was initiated with our communities in mind, with our consumers in mind. We wanted to make sure that it was easy for them to find where they could go for the high quality, faith-based care they have come to expect from Kettering Health and what kind of care they could find at each location.”

To that end, Kettering Health has renamed some of its medical centers to emphasize where care is located so communities can find and access the care they need. Moving forward the medical center names will be as follows:

– Fort Hamilton Hospital is now Kettering Health Hamilton.
– Grandview Medical Center is now Kettering Health Dayton.
– Greene Memorial Hospital is now Kettering Health Greene Memorial.
– Kettering Behavioral Medicine Center is now Kettering Health Behavioral Medical Center.
– Kettering Medical Center is now Kettering Health Main Campus.
– Southview Medical Center is now Kettering Health Washington Township.
– Sycamore Medical Center is now Kettering Health Miamisburg. 
– Troy Hospital is now Kettering Health Troy.
– Soin Medical Center will maintain its current name to honor the Soin family and their generous gift that founded the facility in 2012.

Also part of the brand transformation, Kettering Physician Network is now known as Kettering Health Medical Group.

“By updating our medical center names, we’re making it easier for patients to understand where they can find the compassionate, faith-based care they expect from Kettering Health,” says Manchur. “While our names are changing, we are still the same organization at our core. We remain steadfast in our commitment to combining Christ-centered care with exceptional medicine to bring health, healing and hope to every person we serve.” 

“Our medical center names represent the communities we serve and the care we have provided for years,” adds Dutton.

The name change and rebranding are especially important as the organization moves forward and grows into new communities. And Kettering Health has grown remarkably over the last few years. Today Kettering Health has 13 medical centers and more than 120 outpatient locations across western and southwestern Ohio. Kettering Health also has 1,800 physicians and over 14,000 employees.

“Our Kettering Health Medical Group has more than 700 board certified providers, dedicated to healing and health in the community,” Dutton says. “We have been able to demonstrate our commitment to the communities we serve through our recent investments such as the expansion of the Soin Medical Center in Beavercreek or the opening of the new expansion in Piqua. Those are just a few illustrations of our growth into new or existing markets. It also gives you a sense of why it is very important for us to emphasize where our services are provided and the convenience we feel we are now offering the communities we serve.”

The recent growth of Kettering has not come at the expense of quality of care. Six Kettering Health hospitals recently received an “A” from the Leapfrog Group Hospital Safety Grade. An independent national watchdog organization committed to health care quality and safety, the Leapfrog Safety Grade uses several measures of hospital safety data including, preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harms to patients, from more than 2,700 acute-care hospitals in the United States twice a year. 

Kettering Health hospitals receiving an “A” include Kettering Health Hamilton, Kettering Health Greene Memorial, Kettering Health Main Campus, Kettering Health Washington Township, Kettering Health Miamisburg and the Soin Medical Center. For Kettering Health Hamilton, it was the fifth straight “A” rating from the Leapfrog Group.

Last year, IBM Watson Health also recognized Kettering Health as one of the 15 Top Health Systems in the country. The 15 Top Health Systems study evaluated 332 member health systems and nearly 2,500 hospitals to identify the top-performing health systems in the United States, based on clinical outcomes, operational efficiency and patient experience. It was the fifth time Kettering Health has earned the recognition.

In addition, four Kettering Health hospitals were also named to IBM Watson Health’s Top 100 Hospitals.
