Now, more than ever, art can play a big role in someone’s life, as creating or viewing art can be used as a way to express emotions. The Dayton area is filled with inspiring art, even if you are just walking down the street. Check out these art centers and tours for an experience you won’t want to miss!
Self-Guided Public Art Walking Tour
If you are wanting to explore Dayton art while being outside and see the city at the same time, this is a perfect opportunity. By using the app Avenza you can view different murals, sculptures, unique bike racks and more around the city. When you download the app (App store for iPhone, Google Play for Android), you can use GPS even when you are out of range from network. You can follow the tour maps provided to see where the art pieces are located and see your location in relation to each art piece.
Edward A. Dixon Gallery
Located in Downtown Dayton on the first floor of the Talbott Tower building, the Edward A. Dixon Gallery has art that ranges from modern to contemporary to experimental. The gallery opened October of 2020 and specializes in education, appreciation and sale of international fine art. You can visit the gallery on Thursdays and Saturdays or make separate appointments outside of the normal hours.
Dayton Society of Artists
Located in Oregon Historic District, DSA, which is also known as High Street Gallery, was originally founded by the Dayton Society of Painters and Sculptors in 1938. Each year you can view seven different exhibits, participate in workshops and rent private art studios. You can visit Friday and Saturday when there is an exhibit showing and the first Friday of the month outside of exhibitions showing. Each visit must be a reserved appointment.
Front Street Experience Gallery
At Front Street, located in the Oregon District, you can visit a gallery while a local artist creates art right in front of you. For a full experience, visit during one of the monthly open house tours where you can meet some of the artists and view the rest of the gallery. Artists there create fine art as well as jewelry, home goods and décor. The gallery is open seven days a week while artists also set their own hours.
