Support nonprofits while indulging your green thumb at these sales

April is almost here and, for many of us, that means it’s time to start thinking about gardening. Many local garden centers are opening their doors, but another option for plant lovers is the region’s many plant sales. In addition to offering a wide variety of plants, these sales often support local nonprofits, too. We’ve found three upcoming plant sales that all gardeners should be adding to their calendars. 

Aullwood Audubon Native Plant Sale
Online order through April 15, curbside pick-up April 22-24
Aullwood’s Farm Discovery Center, 9101 Frederick Pike, Dayton

Aullwood Audubon’s online plant sale features more than 134 species and 22 new offerings. Plants on sale include Virginia Bluebells, Giant White Trillium and Jack-in-the-Pulpit. All plants need to be ordered by April 15 and picked up at the Farm Discovery Center April 22-24. Profits from the sale go toward Aullwood’s ongoing environmental education and habitat preservation programs. 

Tecumseh Land Trust’s Native Plant Sale & Swap
April 23, 10 a.m.-noon
Glen Helen Nature Preserve, 405 Corry St., Yellow Springs

North of Cincinnati in Yellow Springs, the Tecumseh Land Trust is holding its annual plant sale and swap. During the event, you can buy new plants or swap one you already own for something else. Only native Midwest plants can be swapped. In addition to the plant sale, the Tecumseh Land Trust is also planning to include some Earth Day activities for an extra level of fun.

2nd Street Market Native Plant Sale
May 22, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
2nd Street Market, 600 E. Second St., Dayton

Dayton area native plant nurseries will be bringing a selection of plants to the market. The event is free to attend.
