These four activities will get you out of the house and having fun this winter
The holidays are over and the cold has set in, but that doesn’t mean you have to stay home for the rest of winter. The Miami Valley is full of events and activities to keep you busy all season long.
Hamilton
The smash Tony-winning musical, Hamilton, is taking over the Schuster Center Jan. 26-Feb. 6. If you’ve somehow been able to avoid all the Hamilton hype, all you need to know is that the show tells the story of one of America’s founding fathers, Alexander Hamilton, with music that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B and Broadway. Elton John Tribute
The Dayton Philharmonic will be playing the music of Elton John during its performance of Remember When Rock Was Young: The Elton John Tribute. Joined by guest singer Craig Meyer, this evening concert will feature beloved hits like “Benny and the Jets,” “Crocodile Rock,” “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” and “Candle in the Wind.” Jan. 22, 8 p.m. $5-$90. Ice Skating
If you weren’t able to get a skate in before the holiday, don’t worry—the rink at Riverscape MetroPark is open through February! You and your family can enjoy a free skate or take part in some ice activities. Ice skating classes for children and youth/teen are being offered Jan. 9 and Feb. 6, with an adults class Jan. 9. Other activities include broomball games on Monday and Wednesday nights and curling lessons on Tuesday evenings in January. Rink hours Su 1-5 p.m., M-W 2:30-8 p.m., Th 2:30-5 p.m., F 2:30-10 p.m., Sa 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Martin Luther King Jr. Day and President’s Day 11 a.m.- 5 p.m. Admission $6, children 3 and younger free with adults. Art at The Co
Three new exhibitions can be found at The Contemporary Dayton starting Feb. 3. Heather Jones’ “Storytellers,” Odili Donald Odita’s “3 Steps From Center” and Jeffrey Gibson’s “To Feel Myself Beloved on the Earth” will all be on display through April 16. Odili Donald Odita will also be installing a mural that is specific to The Contemporary Dayton’s walls during this time.
