The annual Troy Strawberry Festival, which attracts over 150,000 visitors each year, will take place this weekend.
The 46th annual Troy Strawberry Festival will take place this weekend on June 4 and 5. This festival attracts over 150,000 visitors to Troy each year. “Peace, Love and Berries” has been chosen as this year’s theme.
The festival began in 1977 and has continued to grow since. Strawberries were chosen as the focus because Fulton Farms, which is about four miles southeast of Troy, had the biggest strawberry patch east of the Mississippi River.
50+ food vendors will be at this year’s festival with all kinds of food with strawberries—like strawberry cannoli, strawberry ice cream and strawberry salsa. Each booth has a local non-profit that proceeds will be given to. Kathi Roetter, executive director of the Troy area of commerce, says the festival started as a fundraiser for these non-profits.
“This year we have 55 Miami County nonprofits that are participating and for many of them this is their one and only fundraiser for the year to help provide the needed services for our community,” she says.
Some of the events lined up for this year’s festival include a car show on Sunday morning, a food contest for the best strawberry dish and a pie eating contest.
Plenty of live entertainment will be available for visitors to enjoy both days with multiple performances across three stages—the Greenville Federal Stage, the Winans Chocolates + Coffees Stage and the Community Stage. There will even be strolling performers! Stilt walkers and the Supafan band will entertain in the afternoon.
The festival officially begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday and ends at 5 p.m. on Sunday.
