A space in Downtown Dayton is giving the city’s makers, businesses, artists and creatives room to grow
Casey Nickole is on a mission to support the Gem City’s makers, businesses, artists and creatives. To help further her mission, she opened SHAG, a workspace designed to support the community’s creatives and personal care professionals.
“SHAG serves as a vibrant hub for tattoo artists, massage therapists, hair stylists, skin care technicians and many other professionals,” she said. “Utilizing a community-driven approach couples with a progressive business mindset, SHAG aims to provide accessible workspaces that empower entrepreneurial individuals to thrive, care for their clients, cultivate ideas and celebrate their success within the Dayton community.”
When the idea of SHAG first came about, Nickole wanted to create something that was specifically meant as a center for innovation and collaboration while giving Dayton’s creative and personal care professionals a space that was suited for them.
Nickole said SHAG is also a space that aligns with the city’s goals of creating a city that thrives off urban rejuvenation, employing inventive strategies to repurpose urban spaces and fuels local growth by offering affordable, adaptable spaces for small businesses and solo practitioners.
“While championing inclusivity, sustainability and shared success, SHAG mirrors larger urban development and professional networking trends,” said Nickole. “It’s a collective effort to unite tenants who share a common goal: to expand their ventures within a community that celebrates their growth and contributions to Dayton’s renaissance.”
As SHAG looks to make its mark on the creative community, there are new spaces that have opened within its walls. There are 15 private studios in the space, a chair rental salon for up to 12 stylists, and a variety of spaces available in the lower level for micro retail, artists, makers, offices and more.
The spaces at SHAG have different lease terms and are based on amenities, size and location within the building. Prices are as low as $200 per week on the upper level for chair rental, $300 per week for private studios, and lower-level studios for $400 per month.
“With many different types of studios available, you can really grow your business with us,” said Nickole. “Start in a small studio and expand as your success builds. Short-term leases are available with very reasonable deposit rates. The location has amazing proximity to highways, students, local professionals and urban communities.”
