“Putting Down Roots” with The City Mercantile

This open-air market is making its Dayton-area debut Mother’s Day weekend

Husband-and-wife team Andres and Kirsten Oviedo are bringing their love for all things vintage to the Miami Valley with the debut of their open-air market, The City Mercantile.

The duo has been operating events throughout Ohio for five years, and before they decided to put down roots of their own, they were traveling the country selling their line of home decor at more than 100 shows between the Rocky Mountains and the Carolinas.

The City Mercantile Vintage Home Market is all about creating something people are excited for. “Through our open-air markets featuring vintage-inspired home goods, boutique clothing, plants, live music and food trucks, we create fun, memorable events where you can have a great time with friends, enjoy fantastic food, hear good tunes and go home with some really special items for your home,” says Kirsten.

The upcoming event, with the theme of “putting down roots,” will be held May 10 to 11 at Montgomery County Fairgrounds in Dayton. Early Access Passes are sold online in advance only. They are $35 each and include a VIP shopping hour, swag bag, t-shirt, drink pass and discounts from sponsoring booths.

Admission for Friday is $12 at the gate and shopping hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday admission at the gate is $8 and shopping hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Oviedo said there are a variety of vendors who will be participating in the event. “We will have a mix of vintage, handmade, boutique, garden and food vendors for guests to shop and visit with,” she added.

In addition to the event being held on Mother’s Day weekend, Oviedo said that this event is also special in that it’s the debut event at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds. “We are out to create a fun, girls day outing with fun DIY workshops, unique Mother’s Day gift ideas and plenty of photo opportunities,” she says.

If you’re not able to attend the May event of The City Mercantile, you’ll have another chance to check them out this fall. Oviedo shares there will be a 3-day Christmas-themed event titled “Comfort & Joy” scheduled for Oct. 25 to 27.

The Montgomery County Fairgrounds are located at 645 Infirmary Road in Dayton.

You can get your tickets for the event at its website. You can also follow along on Facebook and Instagram to stay up to date on the latest news and vendor announcements.
