Bethany Village’s apartment option helps retirees live their lives without the hassle of maintaining a home

Retirees looking to maintain an independent lifestyle without the stress of homeownership should consider independent apartment living at a continuing-care retirement community (CCRC), advises Dana Lynch, director of sales at Bethany Village.

Operated by local nonprofit Graceworks Lutheran Services, Bethany Village offers residents independent living, assisted living, nursing care and rehabilitation services on 100 acres in Centerville. Lynch says people are often surprised by the many independent options at Bethany. Those who select independent living can choose from two options: cottages and villas, or three apartment buildings.

“Folks who live in apartments benefit more from a sense of community. It tends to be more social,” Lynch says. “The apartment buildings are unique because everything is connected by hallway. Living in the apartments would connect you to the other common spaces, like the fitness center, three of our restaurants, a set of classrooms, a large entertainment space, a club room and two libraries.”

Bethany’s three apartment buildings each has its own personality:

The newest building, Park Ridge Place, has 30 two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartments. Each has a patio or a balcony, and the apartments are on top of a two-story parking garage, making it easy for residents to access their vehicles.

The Homestead apartments are in the midst of a renovation, with the apartments receiving new open-concept floor plans. The building also faces Bethany Village’s lake, giving residents a relaxing view.

Vista Place is Bethany’s high-rise apartment and is the tallest building in Centerville. It’s also gone through a series of renovations, but Lynch says the highlight is its view. “You can see almost past the Dayton Mall,” she says.

Though each building is different, some things are the same. Each apartment building has its own dining option, although residents can enjoy all the restaurants no matter their location, along with other amenities. Each building is connected to the others through hallways.

“Because everything is connected, they can just walk out,” Lynch says. “Steps away, down the hallway, they can go to the Bistro for a cup of coffee or a lunch or go over to Fountain Place for brunch. It’s that sense of connectivity that’s really important to our residents.”

Residents can still come and go as they please, but living at Bethany can relieve the stress of maintaining your own home.

“I always refer to it as the home aggravation goes away because everything is done for you,” Lynch adds. “The grounds are taken care of. Anything that would happen inside the apartment. Say a light bulb needs to be changed, or a faucet is dripping. That’s our team coming over to fix or address those issues.”

If people are considering independent apartment living for themselves or a family member, Lynch advises taking a second look at a CCRC such as Bethany Village.

“If they’re considering retirement living and considering a campus like ours, you’re valuing this plan of longevity that if I would ever need more care going forward, it’s available here,” she says. “I don’t have to go figure out what next looks like. There’s somebody that will help us make the next decisions. That’s what we’re good at. And that’s what we’re known for.”
